MBBR Biofilm Media

Our good quality MBBR carrier filter media is specially designed for aquaculture systems, including fish farms, recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS), shrimp ponds, and aquarium filtration. Made of high-grade HDPE/PP material, it is non-toxic, safe for aquatic organisms, corrosion-resistant, and features stable performance for long-term use.
 
With a unique hollow structure and customizable thickness, this media provides a large specific surface area for nitrifying bacteria to attach and grow quickly. It efficiently removes ammonia nitrogen, nitrite, organic waste, and COD, keeping water clean, stable, and conducive to healthy growth of fish and shrimp.
 
The media has ideal buoyancy and fluidity, circulating evenly under aeration without clumping or blocking. Customizable thickness and size are available to meet different filtration equipment and project requirements. Easy to install and maintain, it improves water quality, reduces water exchange frequency, and enhances survival rates in various aquaculture applications.

Working Process

The MBBR system utilizes HDPE biofilm carriers that remain suspended and fluidized in the reactor via aeration. As wastewater passes through, microorganisms on the carrier biofilms efficiently remove organic pollutants, ammonia nitrogen, and other contaminants through simultaneous aerobic degradation and nitrification/denitrification. Featuring no clogging, simple operation, low energy consumption, and reusable media, MBBR is widely adopted for municipal sewage, industrial effluent (food processing, textile, petrochemical), and aquaculture water purification systems.
