Carbon Molecular Sieve (CMS): Technical Overview
What is Carbon Molecular Sieve?
Carbon Molecular Sieve (CMS) is a specialized adsorbent material with uniform micropores (3-10 Å), designed for gas separation based on molecular size and diffusion rate differences. Made from activated carbon through controlled pyrolysis, it exhibits kinetic selectivity-preferentially adsorbing faster-diffusing molecules .
Carbon molecular sieve is widely used in chemical industry, oil and gas industry, electronics industry, food industry, coal industry, pharmaceutical industry, cable industry, metal heat treatment, transportation and storage.the range of applications of carbon molecular sieves is very wide, covering almost all the fields that need to separate, purify or purify gases.

Key Advantages
----High Selectivity - N2/O2separation coefficient up to 10:1
---- Energy-Efficient - Operates at ambient temperature (vs. cryogenic methods)
---- Chemical Stability - Resists acids, alkalis, and moisture
---- Long Lifespan - Regenerable via pressure swing adsorption (PSA)
Industrial Applications
Nitrogen Generation: >99.9% purity for food packaging, electronics
Biogas Upgrading: CO2/CH4separation
Hydrogen Purification: Removal of CO/CH4impurities
Technical Parameters
▸ Pore Size: 3-5 Å (N2selective) / 4-7 Å (CO2-selective)
▸ Bulk Density: 0.45-0.65 g/cm³
▸ Adsorption Capacity: 8-12 mL N2/g (at 25°C, 1 atm)
Why Choose CMS?
→ 50% lower OPEX than membrane systems for N2 generation
→ Compact design - Saves 70% space vs. cryogenic plants
→ Customizable for landfill gas/VOC recovery
